My Favourite Quotes: Tony Fitzgerald
Lorna and I are blessed to walk with a number of close friends in our faith adventure, none more so than Tony and Marilyn Fitzgerald, who have been a spiritual dad and mum to us for many years now. Enjoying a great relationship with our own natural parents, we feel doubly blessed.
Tony and Marilyn’s revelation of the Father-heart of God and vision of the Kingdom has enlarged and challenged us no end. Here are some of my favourite quotes from Tony:
My favourite Tony Fitzgerald quotes…
One of the greatest challenges that we need to answer is: Are we the church or do we go to church?
Until you grasp whose you are, you’ll never know who you are. You’ll spend your life searching for something you already have in Him.
Jesus came to declare the Gospel of the Kingdom, not promote the gospel of the church. He didn’t come to merely preach “salvation from sin;” He came to proclaim “dominion over everything.”
Jesus did not see the multitudes as a crowd who needed an evangelist, but as sheep needing a shepherd (Matthew 9:36-39). The great need then and today is shepherd-hearted leaders who reveal the Great Shepherd.
For God so loved the world, He sent Jesus. For God so loved your world, He sent you! (John 3:16 c. John 20:21)
Jesus never worked for the need, He served His Father. The need will burn you out, Father never will.
Jesus never did anything supernaturally. Everything He did was completely natural to Him. He only said and did what He saw the Father doing. Likewise, filled with His Spirit, we’re to live naturally supernaturally.
Structures in themselves cannot create life. Only the Father can do that. However, structure can either facilitate or oppose the life the Father desires to create.
When Jesus was released on earth as a Son, His position was, “Here I am Father, send Me”. At the end of his three years of ministry, His prayer was, “Here I am Father, send them” (Luke 4:18, 19 c. John 17:6ff). As apostolic leaders, who we have to send will define us.
Truly grasping the Kingdom message of Jesus will leave you ruined … and glad!
I first heard Tony say this last statement in 1995. All these years later, I can honestly say I’m ruined … and glad!
